  Where Would a Scratch Golfer Place in a Ladies European Tour Event?

  Filming in Spain, this video was to see where James would place in a ladies European tour event. I was on the down-the-line camera for this shoot, meaning I was getting zoom shots on the ball from behind the golfers and following both players around the course. I was doing this along with another camera operator and a drone pilot on the crew. I also created the leaderboard and shot graphics seen in the video.

  Scratch Golfer and High Handicapper Enter a Scratch Match

  This video is a scratch match of the Professional Golf Advisor channel VS the Up & Down Golf channel. For this I was on the down-the-line camera, meaning I was getting zoom shots on the ball from behind the golfers taking their shots, filming everyone at the tee boxes & greens, and then following the PGA team (James and Robin) for the fairways. I was doing this along with another camera operator and a drone pilot on the crew. I also created the animated placing and shot graphics seen in the video, along with working on the shot tracers.

  Would I Come Last in a Professional Golf Tournament?

  This video was filming at the Belfry Golf Course, to see if James could beat the worst score at a professional event. I was the main camera for this shoot accompanied by the drone pilot as the other member of the crew. In post-production I also worked on some graphics to help tell the story of the golf in leaderboards.

  The Basics of 3D in Fusion

  This is a video I made for my editing tutorials YouTube Channel covering the basics of the 3D side of the fusion page in the editing software DaVinci Resolve. As all videos for my YouTube channel do, this video idea started on my ideas board and will have most likely sat there for a few months before being taken forward into pre-production. After getting a basic context for the video and an idea of the structure with what nodes and topics I wanted to cover I started scripting. At this point I am also thinking about title and thumbnail combination ideas, as this is important in how that links into the intro. This script worked out to over 1,000 words and after I'd finished that I shot listed everything I needed (mainly screen recordings) to be sorted. This came out to be 7 standalone motion graphics and 34 things to be screen recorded. After recording all this I then recorded the voiceover, edited together all these elements and did a final few passes of graphics to help make my explanations visually clear. I also make all my own thumbnails for videos on the channel.

A YouTube video consists of 3 parts. Planning, Filming, and Editing. It's the combination of these 3 parts that make a video, and having someone who understands each step of the process makes working, especially in a team, so much easier. Planning

Planning is an incredibly important and sometimes overlooked part of the process. It involves coming up with the concept for the video and maybe even scripting and shot-listing those ideas into reality.
Take for example my YouTube channel 'Resolve Tutorials'. On this channel every video has the idea made, then an outline written. After this I will write a script, keeping in mind the video title and thumbnail ideas I'm also working on, to link up with the intro. Finally, I'll shot-list everything I need to film/screen-record to help the script be visually explained.

Filming

Filming is the next part of the process, whether this is filming myself talking to the camera, a screen recording, or something else like the Golf YouTube channel I work for. Sometimes this is heavily scripted, like for my own channel 'Resolve Tutorials', and other times it is much more free-flowing with overarching structures and jokes to include, like with the channel 'Professional Golf Advisor'.
Ultimately the video relies on what you produce here, so getting the planning right (it doesn't always have to be scripting; it could be test shoots) is crucial. I've worked on over 40 different long-form videos for YouTube, with experience in all different filming styles, so if this is something I can help with, drop me an email.

Editing

The final part of the process is editing. This is almost always the most time-consuming part of making the video and can bring everything together in spectacular ways if done correctly. I edit in DaVinci Resolve and have been doing so for about 5 years now. Whether it is motion graphics, first drafts taking 5 hours of footage down into 2 hours edited, or the whole thing from start to finish, I have experience with it all.
